OpenSauce

Routes idle AI agent tokens toward open source projects that power the web.

What it is

OpenSauce routes idle AI agent tokens — the unused computation that accumulates when AI agents sit between tasks — toward open source software projects. The foundational libraries, tools, and infrastructure the internet runs on are maintained by a small number of overworked volunteers. OpenSauce redirects excess capacity to support them, automatically.

How it happened

Built at a hackathon in 6 hours. This one felt different from most projects I’ve been part of — it was my first time truly vibing on something as a team. Everyone was locked in on the same idea, making decisions fast, and actually having fun doing it.

As a designer, I came in expecting to own the visual layer and hand off specs. What happened was something else entirely: I was directly contributing to the codebase with AI — using Claude to go from planning the sitemap, to building the frontend, to fine-tuning the gamification mechanics like the card motion design. It felt like a superpower I didn’t know I had.

6 hours. A live product. A team that clicked.

What I built with Claude

I used Claude as a real collaborator across the whole stack:

Sitemap & information architecture

Before touching any code, I worked with Claude to map out the product’s pages, content hierarchy, and user flows. This used to be a Figma exercise; here it was a fast back-and-forth conversation that went straight from idea to structure.

Frontend

I hadn’t planned to write production code. But with Claude handling the translation from design intent to working HTML/CSS, the gap between what I was imagining and what was on screen collapsed. I was shipping real UI instead of annotating specs.

Card motion design

The gamification layer — cards that flip, stack, and animate as tokens are allocated — was the most satisfying part. I described the interaction, iterated on the feel with Claude, and refined until the motion was actually good, not just functional.
